In Study of Emotion, Hentges analyzed the variety of emotions felt during one week of her life.

Each day, Hentges did a free writing focused on the emotions from that day. Then, Hentges analyzed her feelings on a scale of great to bad both physically and emotionally. She translated the scale to a range of colors from green (great), blue (good), white (average), grey (less than), black (bad). The colors were used to paint the boxes and to determine thread choice.

Before composing each box, Hentges listened to a guided meditation. Then, she created the box as a summary of her physical and emotion state
